Give thanks!

bae89f577bfa60c2

Some grownups think that young people nowadays deal with social communications more casually than most people did in the old days. Very often, they don’t express their feelings and do not care about people’s feelings.

This morning, when I walked up the stairs to my office, I bumped into a girl I don’t teach. Though I don’t know her and she doesn’t know me, I suppose, as I’m new in the school, I gave her a little smile. This isn’t anything special as I am used to greeting people in this gesture, especially in the morning.  Not surpirsingly, she didn’t return a smile to me and she turned her face away quickly. Her way of greeting me is commonly found among the kids in the school, I did’t feel surprised. But to be frank her manner gave me a not-so-good morning.

In the second recess, some students came to my office to collect some old Time and Newsweek magazines. I give away old magazines to students because I don’t want to waste these handy English learning materials. I felt very pleased watching them choose their own copies with eagerness. I  appreciate students taking their steps in improving their English. Old magazines do not worth a penny and so giving away old magazines is not at all a big thing. I don’t suppose my students will be grateful to me, and afterall, if they don’t make good use of these old periodicals, the whole idea will be meaningless. Yet, I think my kind intention at least deserves a ‘thank you’! Out of my surprise, there were a couple of students just sneaking away after taking their magazines. Their ‘thank you’ may not  brighten my day, but this little note of appreciation will surely show their courtesy, something that will build up their social relationship with others.

Don’t be shy! Show your feelings! You’ll be amazed of how much you’ve coloured the world! :)
