The ‘even’ family

Posted by misskenleyfong on April 29, 2009

How do the following differ from one another?

even

even if

even though

even so

even then

even out

even up

even as

Students often have problems differentiating these connectives and use them wrong.

4E did an MC question with the first two as options today. Some of them could not tell the difference and chose the wrong option. I also asked them the difference between ‘even if’ and ‘even though’. They are going to research on these items tonight and tell me more about them tomorrow! :)

Do you know the difference? Just check ‘even’ from the dictionary and you would learn a lot about all the connectives with ‘even’!
