Perhaps, I am evil-eyed

Perhaps, I am evil-eyed

a lot.

Perhaps, perhaps, you have not changed

at all.

Perhaps,

perhaps, this is the you not in my

Perhaps.

Perhaps, this is evil-minded

An “s” for a third person singular verb?

Posted by misskenleyfong on October 21, 2009

Here is a scandal about Mr Tsang’s English.

“Bow Tie Keep Your Promise”

????????  Bow Tie Keeps Your Promise.

(Suggested by Mr Tsang – an “s” for third person singular verb)

(Mr Tsang did not know he has disgraced himself.)

????????  Bow Tie, Keep Your Promise!

(A command or request made by Hong Kong Pan-democracy camp)

????????  Bow Tie Keeps His Promise.

(A wish made by Mr Tsang when he explained away his “mistake”)

Hope Tsang’s scandal will raise our awareness of Learning good English as well as Keeping Promise!

An Open Letter from Professor Charles Kao – Nobel Laureate in Physics 2009 (By Mrs Kao)

Posted by misskenleyfong on October 18, 2009

Professor and Mrs Charles K. Kao wish to express their gratitude to their friends, all staff, students and alumni at CUHK, members of the media, and the people of Hong Kong, by the following Open Letter.

Since the announcement on 6 October 2009 that Charles has been awarded the 2009 Nobel Prize in Physics, we have received messages from friends from all over the world via the internet, fax, and email. We are overwhelmed by the sea of congratulatory messages from so many people, and the many requests for interviews from the media.

A Nobel Laureate of Chinese ethnicity is a rare event and we understand the outpouring of happiness and pride for our people throughout the world wherever they live. The Nobel Prize is an international prize and has been awarded for work done internationally.

Charles Kao was born in Shanghai, China, did his primary research in 1966 at Standard Telecommunication Laboratories (STL) in Harlow, UK, followed through with work in the USA at ITT, over the following 20 years, to develop fiber optics into a commercial product and finally came to CUHK, Hong Kong in 1987 to pass on his knowledge and expertise to a new generation of students and businessmen. Charles really does belong to the world!

In this open letter, we would like to thank all who have concern for his health. Unfortunately there is no cure at present for Alzheimer’s. Charles shares this problem of coping with Alzheimer with other eminent persons, Ronald Reagan, Margaret Thatcher, to name a few. Charles keeps fit playing tennis and with other exercises. He does not smoke, he enjoys eating and drinking in healthy moderation and sleeps well too. The memory loss is getting more severe, but he enjoys life.

He is eminently proud of his past achievements and excited at becoming a Nobel Laureate – an unexpected award. The press and media have interviewed him and he is happy they have found all the facts they need. So he is more than ready to return to a quiet and undisturbed life now, and he asks that the media respect this.

Our greetings to everyone in Hong Kong, to staff, faculty and students past and present of CUHK, to all our very good friends and especially to our tennis friends. Thank you for all your good wishes and congratulations. Now you know who is responsible for the fiber optical cables that enables all the excessive information, both true and false, good and bad, that circulate on the internet.

Tree Trunks

Posted by misskenleyfong on April 22, 2009

Summer is coming!

I feel refreshed when I see school kids put on their summer uniform. I especially like the white shirts and white dresses my students are wearing. They look clean, fresh and energetic!

Seeing my kids have their uniform changed, I decided to have my apparel changed as well. No matter how much I change, my colours are still black, grey, blue, white, beige and earth. These are the colours I like and these are the colours for work.

To add some colours to my summer apparel, I wore sandals to work today. This is a pair of metalic coloured leather high-heeled sandals with back straps and little ribbons in the front. I bought the pair some time ago and I like them a lot. They are comfortable too. I can walk fast and even run a bit when I have them on.

To go with the pretty sandals, I can’t put on pantyhose, which is somehow quite unusual for me. I like wearing pantyhose because they can protect my legs and feet. I especialy like them in black because they will match up with my lovely black shoes and make the apparel formal. Anyway, I quite enjoy this sudden change of style.

Yet some of my students don’t seem to like it! Today, a small bunch of students kept studying my legs! Some didn’t just studying them, but examining! They fixed their eyes on my legs from time to time and that made me very uncomfortable. Perhaps they were counting the number of hair, insect stings and scars on my legs!  They must have a hard and busy time because there’re numerous defects on my legs! :D

Come on! Your teacher is never pretty and perfect! You can easily find a lot of imperfection from me! My legs are never long and slim; they are like tree trunks I admit. I have scars on my legs because the skin on my legs is always dry and when I scratch the skin, peels and wounds appear. My legs are never delicate and smooth. Sorry to disappoint you!

Hope my ugly tree trunks have not polluted your eyes! You like them or not, I’m going to make them known in my new sandals this summer! :D

Gentle enough to soothe the skin,

Light enough to caress the sky,

Hard enough to crack rocks.

Who am I?

Many Thanks for your Help!

Posted by misskenleyfong on March 12, 2009

Many thanks to Cammy of 6S and Jessica, Yves and Royce of 6A for helping the Form 4 teachers and students with the SBA today!

Though our work in the waiting room did not run very smoothly at first, it turned out to be quite fine.

Special thanks should be given to Royce, who helped with registration, giving out labels and question cards. There was a time when the corridor was crowded with candidates but Royce just stayed very calm and attended to every one of them patiently.

Thanks should be given to the 3 lady ushers – Cammy, Yves and Jessica - as well. Even though things looked messy, they tried to straighten out the confused situation.

Thanks should also be given to Alvin, who kindly recommended Jessica, a responsible and cheerful lady who attended to my special request earnestly, to substitute him.

I’m grateful to their help. Without them, I don’t think we could complete the SBA today.

Yves, you’ve not messed things up. Don’t worry!

If anybody did screw things up, it must be me. Me who did not do the supervision well!

Thanks again!

:D

Give thanks!

Some grownups think that young people nowadays deal with social communications more casually than most people did in the old days. Very often, they don’t express their feelings and do not care about people’s feelings.

This morning, when I walked up the stairs to my office, I bumped into a girl I don’t teach. Though I don’t know her and she doesn’t know me, I suppose, as I’m new in the school, I gave her a little smile. This isn’t anything special as I am used to greeting people in this gesture, especially in the morning.  Not surpirsingly, she didn’t return a smile to me and she turned her face away quickly. Her way of greeting me is commonly found among the kids in the school, I did’t feel surprised. But to be frank her manner gave me a not-so-good morning.

In the second recess, some students came to my office to collect some old Time and Newsweek magazines. I give away old magazines to students because I don’t want to waste these handy English learning materials. I felt very pleased watching them choose their own copies with eagerness. I  appreciate students taking their steps in improving their English. Old magazines do not worth a penny and so giving away old magazines is not at all a big thing. I don’t suppose my students will be grateful to me, and afterall, if they don’t make good use of these old periodicals, the whole idea will be meaningless. Yet, I think my kind intention at least deserves a ‘thank you’! Out of my surprise, there were a couple of students just sneaking away after taking their magazines. Their ‘thank you’ may not  brighten my day, but this little note of appreciation will surely show their courtesy, something that will build up their social relationship with others.

Don’t be shy! Show your feelings! You’ll be amazed of how much you’ve coloured the world! :)

Time-conscious

Posted by misskenleyfong on February 27, 2009

For half a year, I’m still not familiar with the time slot of every period in the new school I work in. I’m in particular having problem with the 5th period which should be ended at 12.20pm.  For many times, I thought the lesson should be ended at 12.25pm and overran the alloted time.

My carelessness finally brought about some trouble today.

I must learn to be time-conscious.

I must learn to be as time-conscious as my students! :)
